We are the Arren Bar-Even Association for Synthetic Metabolism, a community of scientists dedicated to advancing the field of Synthetic Biology, with a focus on engineered metabolism. Our roots trace back to the Systems and Synthetic Metabolism lab led by Arren Bar-Even in Potsdam, Germany, which was active from 2015 to 2023. During that time, we expanded the understanding of how bacterial metabolism can be rewired and reprogrammed to successfully implement novel pathways.

After the lab’s conclusion in 2023, we formed this association to continue fostering collaboration and innovation. We want to connect former lab members with new scientists in the field, supporting a vibrant network committed to open, inclusive, and collaborative science.
